With two campus locations—Brown County Campus in Mt. Orab and Central Campus in Hillsboro—Southern State Community College provides close-to-home convenience and a supportive community experience. The college also offers courses in aviation maintenance, airframe and powerplant at Laurel Oaks in Wilmington – Clinton County.
Delivering on its mission to provide an affordable, accessible, high-quality education, Southern State offers associate degree programs, certificate programs, bachelor’s degree completion through on-site partnership agreements, adult basic literacy courses, GED (ASPIRE) and workforce training programs.
Southern State graduates roughly 300 students annually with degrees and certificates. The college maintains relationships with many area high schools through Ohio’s College Credit Plus program. As a percentage of our total credits, roughly 60% are taken by CCP students.
The college has over 20 four-year partners with a broad variety of transfer pathways. Southern State prides itself on developing relationships that encourage students to stay in the area even to finish a bachelor’s degree.
Beyond credit, Southern State offers a Truck Driving Academy, Workforce Development training and an Adult Opportunity Center
Looking Ahead, Southern State’s mission has remained constant: Affordable, Accessible, and High-Quality Education. Southern State’s vision it to strive to be an indispensable entity in the community.
“I believe community colleges are often the hidden engine that can drive shared prosperity,” says Dr. Nicole Roades, SSCC president. “Too often we think of “college” to mean four-year universities yet, community college enrollment accounts for nearly 40% of all undergraduate students.”
