Changes Coming to Centerville

Centerville’s I-675/Wilmington Pike Corridor to see major improvements

By Joe Frye

Centerville drivers can expect significant upgrades along the I-675 and Wilmington Pike corridor over the next few years, thanks to a comprehensive improvement project aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The I-675/Wilmington Pike corridor also serves as an access point to many of the retail destinations, including Cornerstone of Centerville and The Greene.

To address traffic issues and accidents, the City of Centerville has launched a phased improvement plan in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC), the Dayton Development Coalition and the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. The plan includes a series of roadway, intersection and interchange upgrades designed to reduce travel times, improve safety and accommodate future growth.

The project is currently in the design and engineering phase, with designs expected in 2026. Construction is expected to begin for the initial phases in 2029. In total, the upgrades are estimated to cost around $70 million, with funding coming from a mix of federal, state and local sources.

“This area is not just an economic engine for Greene and Montgomery counties and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, but for the region as well,” Centerville City Manager Wayne Davis says. “We are proud to be leading this effort with Sugarcreek Township and to have the strong support of our state and federal partners. Without a doubt, a project of this scale is in our nation’s interest as we improve access to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.”

Centerville officials are encouraging residents to stay informed and engaged as planning progresses. More information, including design updates and timelines, will be shared through the city’s website and public meetings.
